Perfect Sunny Sunday

Yesterday was a wonderful day. The weather cooperated and I got to have a sunshine filled walk. I had a cathartic afternoon cleaning my art studio from floor to ceiling. (Will give you an art studio tour in a future post) My family took me out for Mother's Day to a favorite restaurant where I could indulge in wine, red meat and chocolate souffle cake ( heaven)

Inspirational Studio Time

And to top it off I got inspired to mess up my clean studio and worked on a new artwork until midnight. ( that was when my husband came down the hall to give me a dirty look that it was time for bed. I often will lose track of time in the creative process. Sometimes, it is my cat that will come looking for me... but she was too lazy and was fast asleep at the end of our bed. ( I paint my cat too, if you want to see my cat art)

About the art

It would be a lie to say this is a brand new art... from time to time I will pull a canvas off my walls and start to rework it. This art was one such canvas. I knew it was time to change it. The flowers and dragonflies were already there, but I decided that the background needed more unity and I also changed the message on the canvas.

Mixed Media Mantra

I knew I wanted to use the new technique I mastered in my art journal of adding black type on top of the collage. I also wanted to relate to the image in some way. The music represents "harmony" The flowers and garden symbolize "growth" or "cultivate"-- such as cultivating something inside of you. I also believe that dragonflies like butterflies symbolize a metamorphosis of some kind since both start off as one kind of insect and change into another. (you can see all my dragonfly art HERE)

Getting the right words

Unfortunately, I am running out of letters in my letter set. I am out of "m's" which meant I couldn't do the word "harmony" my one little word of the year. (that word may be getting overplayed in my art anyway) I also was out of the letter "t" which meant I couldn't do the word "cultivate" I was thinking "cultivate creativity" would make a nice message. Just as well since I am not sure those two words fit as well on the art. Finally, I settled on "Allow Change" which suited my art and the process perfectly. You may collect either a print or the original canvas art on etsy.
