An Art Journal in Search of Happiness

We all want happiness, don't we? After all.... all those other things we think we want... love, money, success etc ...we want all these things because we think they will make us happy. But then there are those who are happy and poor. Single and happy. Unknown and unsung and happy. The concept behind the meditation that prompted these art journal pages is to respect happiness and respect happy people.. Instead of looking for other things to respect... just respecting the value of happy people.

I did this free hand sketch while visiting Cold Spring, New York. You can read more about that sketching adventure in my story Urban Sketching Goes Suburban. The French bistro had the menu written on the walls on the veranda and I started copying the actual foods but you will notice I switched to words I wanted on the menu, like harmony, faith, happiness, focus and love.  Wouldn't it be great if you could go to a restaurant and order a plate of happiness? How I choose my words On the other side of my art journal book, I did a meditation on happiness. Sometimes, the way I come up with my meditations and words for my journal is I flip through a book on meditations until I arrive on one or two that I like and then I copy them into my journal. I don't feel it is important to be entirely original and profound with my meditations. It is more important that I meditate. Writing down the words and spending time coloring them in gives me space in my head to meditate on the thoughts.  This is the meditation book I used:
