ASK EVA: September 29, 2015

This week we use the Witches Tarot Deck to answer a question from a reader in California. This reader asks

DearĀ Eva -

My sister and I have not spoken in over 5 years. We didn't part on awful terms but they weren't the best either. What can be done to get some semblance of a relationship back?

Family relationships are the most complex, but things I have clients ask about all the time. So don't worry, we can deal with this. I have used the Witches Tarot to draw three cards for your situation. This is a variation of a Past, Present and Future Spread. These cards will help give us an idea as to what issues have caused the rift and what you can do to start getting back on track.

Past issues:

The Five of Wands shows us five figures in what appears to be a battle. However a closer look reveals blunt, flower covered wands that couldn't cause any harm. This card exemplifies the term "childs play" and insinuates that part of the issues arising between you and your sister has to do with the fact that one of you refused to grow up and face life like an adult. It was frustrating for one sibling to have to be the responsible one while the other got to have all the fun.

Present Issues:

This brave looking woman in the Nine of Wands stands at the edge of a cliff, with a row of wand behind her and one clutched in her hands like a fighting staff. You have been hanging in there, and some days feel like you are at the end of your rope. You know that you bear some of the responsibility of the state of the relationship, but it weighs heavily on you. You have thought about reaching out to your sister, but when you REALLY think about it, it creates a knot in your stomach, because it makes you feel like you are headed into a warzone if you do.

Going Forward:

Here in the four of cups we see a lovely mermaid sitting next to a boy. The boy sits staring at the cups, with his arms stubbornly crossed in front of him. Is he resisting the cups in front of him, or is he so caught up in his own thoughts that he is missing out on an opportunity? Either way, this card signifies that it is time to wake up and be open to new experiences. In this case, you need to make sure that you need to grow up - family is not something you can choose, but they won't be around forever. One of you has to make the first move or you are going to spend the rest of your lives wondering "what if". There are things that you may not like about each other, but you need to BOTH have the maturity to accept that at this point in life it is likely that neither of you are going to change your ways and that you need to accept each other. Be the bigger person and make the first step towards reconnecting...
