Where do you go for great art in the middle of July when some shows have closed and you've seen the rest? The Cone Sisters exhibition is still going on at the Jewish Museum and so is Savage Beauty, the Alexander McQueen retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art but if you are a frequent museum goer you may be looking for a fresh batch of new shows to see. Here is a round up of another group of exhibitions that have either just opened or are still going on through the end of the summer in New York. Your grew up with Sesame Street. Your kids love Elmo and now with the new Muppet Movie coming out, what better activity for the whole family then to go to a museum that highlights the achievements of the genius behind all the beloved puppets. Fifteen iconic puppets, including Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Rowlf, and Bert and Ernie, are on view, along with photographs of Henson and his collaborators at work and excerpts from his early projects and experimental films. Your children won't be disappointed by this show and neither will you.
Guided tours of Jim Henson’s Fantastic World are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and last 30 minutes.

The crown jewel of the Frick Collection is Giovani Bellini's St. Francis in the Desert. Even if you are already familiar with this iconic painting, be sure to catch some of the great programs the museum has planned over the summer in connection with the exhibition. Have you been meaning to get to the Morgan but never seem to make it? Now is the time as this museum is packed with wonderful exhibitions right now to please art enthusiasts of any kind. Located in midtown Manhattan, the Morgan houses one of the world's greatest collections of artistic, literary, and musical works, from ancient times to the present day. In addition, the Morgan Café is one of the best summer luncheon spots in New York. Evoking European alfresco dining in the Morgan's soaring Gilbert Court.

Picasso’s Vollard Suite: The Sculptor’s Studio

If you can never get enough of Picasso, and who can, then you can trek over to New York's backyard to catch “The Sculptor’s Studio.” This exhibition will feature key images from the group of 100 prints he made for the legendary art dealer and publisher Ambroise Vollard. These superb works from the Vollard Suite demonstrate Picasso’s ability to please and astonish with equal intensity.

Who do you think is in the top two spots for the most expensive paintings ever sold? Picasso? WRONG! Van Gogh, good guess, but wrong again. The top two spots are held by Jackson Pollock and another abstract expressionist, Willem DeKooning. ( his painting sold for 137.5 million in 2006!) The Pace Gallery gained control of his estate from the Gagosian Gallery last year and now we have the pleasure of viewing the genius of the late Abstract Expressionist's colorful figurative works. be sure to grab a girlfriend and see this show during the week as these gallerists are spending their weekends at the beach.

Jim Dine: The Glyptotek Drawings through September 4, 2011
Jim Dine: The Glyptotek Drawings explores Dine's meditation on the antique world. The exhibition will present the forty drawings, the resulting book of prints based on them, and a number of related works, all promised gifts of the artist to the Morgan. Rich in imagery, and visual appeal, this important group is representative of Dine's skillful union of traditional subject matter and modern drawing technique.
