July Tarotscapes: #Winterishere

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan. I live here in New Mexico just about an hour and a half from where George RR Martin calls home. The story is epic and the characters are so compelling. When deciding which deck to use for this months tarotscopes it was a no brainer - Game of Thrones!

One of the most interesting things about the Game of Thrones is the fact that it was in part inspired by the War of the Roses in England. This turbulent time before the rise of the Tudor dynasty was marked with civil unrest, and the crown of England changing hands many times as the Yorks and the Lancasters fought for control.

As someone who is majoring in European History for my bachelor's degree, it makes the story so much more nuanced - and therefore I find myself going back and watching episodes with fresh eyes each time I gain more historical knowledge of the events.

This deck makes use of the key figures of the Game of Thrones universe in such a way that it makes total sense. For example, our Heirophant card finds Bran Stark in front of a heartwood tree. He is most likely in the midst of a vision, as the ravens fly above him.  Bran himself suffered his own crisis of faith when he lost the use of his legs, and his journey so far has been about discovering his power and regaining that faith.  The Death card shows us Ayra Stark in Bravos with her list of names at her feet. Of all the characters in the show she has undergone the most startling and profound changes. She has essentially died as the youngest Stark girl, expected to marry well and raise children, to this amazing woman who can fight, and take care of herself. Her journey was difficult, but she embraced the death of her old life.

When Game of Thrones returns in two weeks I will be watching with bated breath to see where these events take favorite characters as the winter arrives. Until then, please enjoy this month's #Tarotscopes.
