Looking for Guidance with Grandkids

This week we have a question that came to us through the Ask Tiamat web form (see above to submit your own question) and it's a doozy. Here it is:

Dear Tiamat,
There is an upcoming hearing to discuss visitation with my grandkids. What can I do to help ensure the best possible outcome?

Now we don't deal with specifics when it comes to legal matters, so we are going to approach this as best we can. The top card here is your signifier card - a card that stands in to represent you in the reading since you aren't right in front of us. I have then used a modified Past, Present, Future spread to see if we can't give you some insight into some of the forces at play here.

You are the ultimate "mother hen" and are happiest when you are taking care of others. You strive to have a warm, welcoming home and family is of the utmost importance to you.

Much like the dog in this card, loyalty and devotion are cornerstones of your life. A struggle for you is in caring too much about appearances. You want so desperately to have that perfect family and the perfect home that you may be overlooking more important things - like other peoples feelings. And when things go wrong, try not to automatically think the worst of someone - everyone's struggle is different, and needs the benefit of your inherent compassionate nature.

Now let's get down to the heart of things. In our PAST position we have the High Priestess. She sits on her throne, balanced between two pillars, and between the light above and the cosmos below. She is calm, collected and centered. In all things she maintains a neutrality. Part of your past issues stem from not heeding the wisdom of the priestess, instead choosing to take a side - not offering compassion and understanding when it was needed most. This card often appears when people have a loved one experiencing substance abuse issues. For the PRESENT we see the Six of Pentacles. The man in this card is richly dressed and is is doling out money to the shabbily dressed children before him. You have the opportunity to give someone a helping hand, yet instead you have been almost miserly with your help. You feel like you have been taken advantage of, and it is coloring your daily life. For the FUTURE card we have the Wheel Of The Year. Right now, you are at a critical turning point. It is important that you are prepared to make some changes. If you really want to spend more time with the grandkids, you need to be able to demonstrate that you are capable of providing them some stability, without judging the situations that have gotten you all to this point. If you can get a handle on your feelings of hurt and resentment then things look like they are going to come around for you.
