The Bad Mood Cure

Last week, I had a series of unfortunate events-- all in the same day. For example, my contact ripped in half and I had to run over to the eye doctor to have the him fish the remainder out of my eye. I also dropped a valuable (yes, very valuable) earring down the drain, but because the weather was so glorious that day my mood was unaffected. I could just observe these events and laugh at them...at the same time, I realized that had I ripped a contact in the middle of January and had to drive in the cold huddled in my winter coat, I would not have been quite as glib about it. (don't worry, my eye is fine, and the my handy husband retrieved the earring from the bend in the pipe)

Bottling Good Moods and Sunshine

Don't you wish you could bottle the good feelings and soak them in for those darker days? I was thinking about that while I created these butterfly artworks. So, I poured all my happy feelings into the art and captured them into these two joyful canvases. The artwork then becomes a representation of that carefree summer mood.

Abstract representation of playful feelings

I create both artworks at the same time, dancing back and forth between the two, voicing my different ideas. Each one became an exercise of "what ifs" as I experimented with the interplay of colors and the harmonies of shape, color and pattern. Although the art has a representational form of a butterfly, I did not bog myself down in the illustrative details of capturing the specifics of either insect. Therefore, the art is an abstract representation of playful feelings.

Rothko-esque Color Fields of the Imagination

Even the sides wear a Rothko-esque treatment with teal and orange color fields evoking the cool ocean waters and warm sands.
