The Changed Political Landscape...
So my friends and some of my family have woken up this morning and are so full of fear - and I feel for you, I really do. It must be very difficult for you to champion someone so hard and have them fall short.
This will be my sole political post for today. Yes, I voted for Trump. "How as a woman can you support him?" I was asked repeatedly yesterday. People whom I thought were friends called me a moron, a traitor, a rapist lover, one even told me I should just go hang myself now.... Really? This is the love and peace that I am supposed to believe that the democratic party would bring? I'm thinking not so much.

As a woman I do not allow my vagina to do my thinking - scandalous, I know... For me personally this election was about the issues. Not email leaks, or videos of "locker room" talk, but the issues. I am a mother of six from a very poor rural New Mexico area. I am a sexual assault survivor. I have family who has served in our military and in law enforcement. I am a student of European history and criminal justice. I own several guns. These experiences have over the years shaped the ideals that are important to me.
I want to be able to get a job without worrying that an illegal immigrant was given the position because an employer can get away with paying them less. I want better security at our borders. If people want to come to this country let them follow the process just like our great grandparents had to do. ISIS has already stated that they are using our lax border security to get operatives into our country - how does THAT not terrify you? I want my friends and family in the military to be safe, and to have the tools and equipment that they need to come home safely. I want them to have access to health care when they return. I want my friends and family in law enforcement to be safe on the streets as well - not having to essentially wear suits of armor in order to do their job. They have just as much right to come home safe as anyone else. I want access to affordable health care. Currently our family brings in less then $25,000 each year. I shouldn't be forced to purchase insurance that costs $600/month and has a $15,000 deductible before it covers 40% of the charges. It's great that some of you live in areas or states where there a literally dozens of health care plans you can choose from, but here in NM you literally have one maybe two choices. I want Americans back to work. Since when is it acceptable to have companies take their production to other countries. Bring the jobs BACK to the United States - and make it desireable for companies to stay here. I want to pay-for play and people with money to stop making the choices that affect ME. All these rich people and actors have no idea what the real daily struggle is. How it feels to have to decide between buying medication or food. How it feels to go another year without a SS cost of living increase. I want to be able to purchase a gun to protect my family. And if I want to conceal carry to protect myself when I am out I should be able to have that right as well. The second amendment protects my rights as a gun owner. And most importantly I want ISIS dealt with. No more of this pussyfooting around and molly-coddling Muslims. We have dealt for several years now with an administration that won't even use the words radical Islam. My LGBT friends are so concerned about the landscape under Trump, but how are you OK with bringing another couple million "refugees" into this country? Ones that even Hillary says we cannot properly vet? People who have such hatred towards LGBT people that they THROW THEM OFF ROOFS? Where is your fear of this happening?
Do I agree with Trump saying to "grab em by the pussy"? No, but I understand that sort of thing is said all over our country every day. Anyone who is shocked by this has clearly never heard the things that come out of women's mouths on a girls night out. It doesn't make it right, but it doesn't make a person a monster either. Most of all, what I did NOT agree with was the tremendous amount of contempt that Mrs Clinton showed towards me and others like me - calling us a basket of depolorables, racist, sexist, etc... I think that the United States as a whole really was disgusted by that gross mischaracterization of us. If you look at a county by county map of our country last night it is clear that the working class, average American has had enough and want a change.
It remains to be seen how effective President Trump will be, but I am willing to give him the chance to try. And if you are the "embrace everyone" American that you claim to be then you will as well. It is time to pull together, regardless of how our candidate faired, and #makeamericagreatagain
