The exhibition of Maurice Predergast is a sentimental look at Victorian era Boston viewed through the eyes of the artist. The exhibit is situated directly beneath the Van Gogh exhibit so you can definitely see both in one day as I did in late June. The watercolors all come from a single sketchbook that Robert Lehman purchased and subsequently donated to the museum.

I especially liked the way the artist often "outlined" his sketches with a watercolor border.

You can move through this exhibit fairly quickly. I am not sure if the rotunda is a hexagon, but I think there are about 6 walls worth of these framed watercolors. Each one is lovely.

Did you recognize me? Here I am in my summer uniform of lace shorts and a Mexican peasant blouse. I wear the same outfit in my studio and just throw an apron on top. (see blog post: Apron Avant Garde) My daughter and I had to be very sneaky about taking pictures in the museum. Some exhibits they let you, but most they don't. That's one of my own handbags too.

I found this charming video on youtube which features many paintings of Prendergast both in watercolor and in oil, although the watercolors are my favorite... what do you think?
