What makes a good tarot reader?

Tarot reading is an unregulated business - meaning that anyone can hang a shingle and claim to be a tarot reader. It can be tricky finding a good one - so how do you know when you have?

Ideally a tarot reader should have more then a basic knowledge of the cards. Look for a reader who has spent significant time learning their craft. A good reader will admit that there is ALWAYS something to learn about the tarot. The beauty of the cards is that there are basic meanings, but those who study astrology, numerology, kabbalah, etc... can unlock a fountain of information.

You should also look for a reader who adheres to a code of ethics. They should be commited to respecting their clients and privacy. A good reader will have things they simply won't do, regardless of the price. And frankly, you wouldn't want to hand over your money to someone who would do anything, would you?

The right tarot reader will give guidance, and help direct you - but should never take the place of licensed professionals like lawyers, doctors or psychiatrists. Having a counseling background is helpful, but not having one shouldn't cause you too much concern as long as they can be objective and caring.

Be sure to take time to look around the reader's website. What is the vibe you get? If they have a blog, subscribe to it or at the very least read through it. It is a great tool to determine te reader's voice and expertise.

And last but not least, if they offer a free reading accept it - it is not a full reading usually but it will give you a really good idea as to what to expect from a full reading. Once you find a good reader, be sure to give them feedback they can share on their sites - it's more important then you might think!
