What the heck is Periscope? [Andrea Gomoll Artist Chat]

artist interview with Andrea Gomoll of @cre8tivecre8tions http://schulmanart.blogspot.com/2016/09/what-heck-is-periscope-andrea-gomoll.html
Don’t you just love the power of technology?

That’s exactly how I felt when I finished my Skype call with Andrea Gomoll although nearly 4,000 miles separates the comfort of my studio from hers just outside of Berlin, Germany.

Andrea discovered that she can use social media in the same way to connect with her fans in North America.

Discover how to harness the power of Periscope, YouTube and Instagram to connect with other artists and art collectors all over the world in this “Artist Chat” with Andrea Gomoll.

To Scope or Not to Scope (and what the heck is Periscope anyway?)

Creators of Periscope knew that although a picture is worth a thousand words, it’s live video that transports you across the world. Periscope allows artists to stream live video to anyone who joins a broadcast and artists are jumping on board to share their art process and connect with collectors and art enthusiasts.

Viewers engage with artists as they “go live” by asking questions or showing the love—via a heart—and they can even choose to be notified when there is a live broadcast on air. If viewers can’t tune-in live, broadcasters can save “Scopes” for them for later. Originally, the app would auto-delete recordings after 24 hours, but now the app saves them indefinitely which is great for those who don't like to be glued to their phones and hate missing out.

Live Engagement via Periscope

Andrea uses Periscope often to engage with her fans, even if it’s 1 am her time in Berlin. She loves the live engagement as viewers ask questions and give feedback. This is what makes creating and watching Scopes fun for her.

Although many Periscope broadcasters have the camera pointed to their faces, Andrea loves to have the camera face her hands to share her artistic process. Artists can benefit from watching Periscope broadcasts such as tutorials, Q&A sessions and idea generation for their next project.

Other Ways to Connect with Artists and Art Collectors on Social Media

Andrea tends to use Periscope in cycles. As she juggles the demands of her business she finds that the live engagement Periscope offers is sometimes best, but in other cases YouTube works better. Even though Periscope and YouTube both use videos—and Andrea has affinity for both—they both are suited for different needs. Just like your high heels and flip-flops meet very different needs.

Although she loves Periscope, her first love and favorite social media site is Instagram which offers a quick and simple view into a person’s life and style.

Free Coloring Page from Andrea

As a gift to you, Andrea created a beautiful coloring page that you can download for FREE. Even though I started to color mine, my 18-year-old daughter took it over and loved finishing it!
