Change to what? – 2
TIGHT ROPE
WITH MODESTO P. SA-ONOY
Finally the word is out, that is, out of the mouth of Rodrigo Duterte. As socialist he will establish a coalition government with the communists and even a revolutionary government. Is this the change that Valencia and his company want – for us to be ruled by a socialist in coalition with the communists?
Could Duterte be just bluffing to get media mileage? Can we trust the word of a man who has been verified in court document to be a sociopath, a man who believes he is always right, has no sense of guilt and remorse or, to cite a news report, a man without a conscience?
If Valencia, Hinlo, Baribar and now we hear Vice Governor Bong Lacson, Monico Puentevella, several prominent planters (a Monfort and Aranas, for instance were mentioned) want this kind of man for the presidency, they can have him, but not for this country. Last Sunday, Duterte was likened to Russian strong man (dictator) Putin. Those mentioned can make their denials here.
Valencia’s “forgotten” columnist (Pastor Quiboloy) in Manila Standard threatens the country with a revolt if he believes Duterte was cheated. It is easy to claim cheating to justify a revolt.
The communists in The Netherlands were reported going home to the Philippines once Duterte wins. In fact, the communist armed component, the New People’s Army, staged a kidnapping of policemen and released them to Duterte. The PNP is investigating because this looks like a grand zarzuela to deceive the people.
The communists in The Netherlands were so pleased they came out immediately to bolster Duterte’s campaign and offer of a coalition. Reports say that several communists will be in the socialist cabinet of Duterte.
In one sweep, Duterte will be solving the communist insurgency that had raged for almost half a century by converting this nation into a communist-socialist society. No wonder he had nothing to say to the businessmen about the economy because he would have spelled out the socialist economic system that will open the doors to communism.
He said that if the Congress will not bend to his demands, he will dissolve the Congress and establish a revolutionary government. With power concentrated in his hands, who can stop him from converting this country into a communist totalitarian state? Can Valencia, Archie Baribar, Jesus Hinlo, sugarcane planters, businessmen, some religious, workers and employees, etc. who want Duterte to win stop him when he takes dictatorial power? Will they share in that power?
Do we want change by establishing a regime worse than martial law? The Duterte people must answer this question considering that Duterte had already declared his intention, his true and real change. His supporters owe this to the people so that we and history will know whom to blame.
I am not surprised at all at this development. All the while his statements and actuations have all the hallmarks, the characteristics of a communist, totalitarian government. In fact I had written months before about his methods that are similar to those of the despots of the world like Hitler, Mao and Stalin.
The big lies are beginning to be unmasked. Duterte campaigns on the issue against corruption and to bolster their claims to transparency and anti-corruption agenda, he and Cayetano signed last March 11 a pledge to open their bank accounts to show they have no hidden wealth.
Then Sen. Antonio Trillanes exposed his alleged P211 million account in the Bank of the Philippine Islands. At first Duterte denied he has an account, with Cayetano like a sacristan repeating the claim. When proof was shown that indeed he has an account, he backtracked and admitted but said that one of the accounts (he had several Trillanes said) the money is only P50,000. Then another admission he had only P7,000. His answers kept changing.
When pressed to sign a waiver, Duterte refused, claiming it is a trap. If his bank account has only that much as he claimed, it would have been to his credit had he allowed disclosure and trap Trillanes instead. By opening the account he would have forced Trillanes to resign from the vice presidential race and give Cayetano a little boost.
But why doesn’t he? Is Trillanes right?
Danger hangs in this country and those who love democracy should reject the kind of change that Valencia, etc. support.Should we change democracy with totalitarianism? That will be to our everlasting shame and guilt.*
