Introduction to PHP

My introductory article on PHP, titled PHP for Designers, is now online at Digital Web. PHP is a fairly easy language to pick up and knowledge of how it works can be a big help when youā€™re using WordPress.

Redirecting MT Entries

Iā€™ve posted a single entry template for MoveableType that you can use to republish your MT archives and have them all redirect to the corresponding entries youā€™ve imported into WordPress. Download. If youā€™re inspired to take this and create other templates (archives, etc.) feel free to send them my way and Iā€™ll include them in [ā€¦]

The Man Behind the Antlers

Havenā€™t we all wondered about RadioactiveCaribou..er, NuclearMoose at some point or other? Heā€™s all over the forums, heā€™s just done an incredible job with a preliminary table of contents for the wiki, and heā€™s created most of the great WordPress holiday logos seen in the header (among many other things). I mean, who IS this guy? And where does he find the time?

Well, a couple of weeks ago I set out to find the ā€˜realā€™ NuclearMoose. I emailed him a few questions, to which he promptly responded.

Here then, is Craig Hartel, otherwise known as NuclearMooseā€¦kind of live and completely uncensored!

Wiki Update

Everything with the Wiki has been fixed up. It actually wasnā€™t a problem with the wiki software we use, PHPWiki, it was a glitch in mmcache. As always, if you notice anything funky feel free to email me or post on the forums.

What's Wrong With the Wiki?

Just a quick note: thereā€™s been a few posts in the forums today about the Wiki being down. Matt is aware of the problem and has been working to resolve it. See this post for more information.

New Feature: Post Meta-Data

In the CVS development code, and the March 24 nightly build, there is a new feature: Post Meta-Data, or ā€œPost Custom Dataā€. This allows you to attach arbitrary bits of information to a post using key/value pairs. You may have have seen blogs before where every post has something like ā€œmood: happyā€ or ā€œcurrently listening [ā€¦]

Download Link Fixed

Thanks to those who wrote in about the https://wordpress.org/latest link going to the old release, that has been fixed now.

XML-RPC Fixes

Iā€™ve just committed some more fixes for the XML-RPC blog API interfaces into CVS. If you are testing WordPress code from CVS or nightly builds, and you have had trouble posting to WordPress with your favorite blog client in the past, give it another try. Please post your results in the support forums.

The Unofficial Five Kingdoms

Of WordPress Hackdom, that is. There are so many requests for hacks of various sorts that I thought it might be helpful to list some of the most useful sites. ā€˜Usefulā€™ is subjective, of course, but I have attempted to list the most comprehensive sites. Please note that all hacks do not work with all [ā€¦]

In case you haven't heardā€¦

Version 1.0.2 is now available for download from Sourceforge. This is only a bugfix release, and contains no new features. Hereā€™s the Changelog. About the upcoming plugin architecture: From Matt: WordPress is moving toward a more robust plugin system that will make distributing and installing plugins or hacks easier than ever. In 1.2 there will [ā€¦]

A Brief Introduction

A couple of weeks ago, I replied to this post in the forums. This past Thursday, I was informed by Matt that because I was the best-looking most qualified of all the candidates, he was offering me the position of informally reporting on the WordPress scene, should I choose to take it. Obviously, I did, [ā€¦]

Going to SxSW

In a few hours Iā€™m going to be in Austin for this yearā€™s SxSW Interactive conference. I think itā€™s going to be a lot of fun this year and Iā€™m looking forward to seeing a lot of old and new friends. If you are a WordPress user, or are interested in becoming one, feel free [ā€¦]
